The Skills for Life and Work program helps you find, secure and maintain meaningful employment.

Employment Services for People with Multiple Barriers

Back in Motion Skills for Life and Work Program is a 6 week cohort-based program designed to assist individuals with multiple barriers to employment by providing individuals with training in soft skills, essential skills and job readiness skills.

By participating in this program, you will gain the skills needed to find, secure, and maintain meaningful employment. 

This 6-week cohort-based training is designed to support you to employment, and will provide you with:

Employment Counselling

Job Readiness Skills

 Essential Skills Training

  Occupational Skills Training

  Technology support (for participants who qualify)

  *NEW$100 Training Completion Bonus, for participants who complete all 6 weeks of training with us

  Job Coaching & Job Placement support for up to three months after the training

This program is funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada-British Columbia Workforce Development Agreement; through the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training.

Currently, due to Covid-19 pandemic, our cohorts have transitioned to virtual classes and one-on-one video-conferencing meetings. When pandemic is over, and it is safe for participants and staff, our cohorts will return to in-person classroom delivery.

Program Eligibility


Are you…

  • A Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or protected person legally entitled to work in Canada

  • A BC Resident

  • Unemployed or Precariously Employed

  • Not a full-time student

  • Not actively participating in or receiving financial supports from another provincially or federally-funded labour market program.

Who Is This Program For?


The Back in Motion Skills for Life and Work program supports persons with multiple barriers to employment.

“Multiple-barriers” is defined as individuals facing two or more barriers to employment, including:

  • Unstable Housing
  • Recovering from addiction
  • Prior criminal justice involvement
  • Mental health challenges, mental illness
  • Social networks and connections
  • Recent work experience
  • Canadian work experience
  • Low literacy skills
  • Limited English language skills
  • Low self-esteem
  • Low Income or no income
  • Young adult at risk (18-24)
  • Older Worker (55+)
  • Survivor of violence and/or abuse

Individuals can self-refer if they identify with multiple barriers to employment.

Our Back in Motion Skills for Life and Work team is ethnically diverse, and includes multi-lingual professionals from around the world. Services are delivered in English only, but we have staff members that speak Portuguese, Spanish, Farsi/Persian, Arabic and Japanese, in addition to English.
